Awesome... a handful of Vice Presidential Debate Drinking Games, courtesy of Washington Metblogs. The post also has some good places in DC to watch the debates. Ventnor Sports Cafe is having $1 shots when you hear a buzzword. Awesome.

Sep. 30th, 2008 @ 07:37 pm Stewart/Colbert Interview
Tags:
For those of you who like the Daily Show and/or the Colbert Report, there's a great interview with the pair in Entertainment Weekly.

My favorite quote from Colbert... probably because it is so sadly true:

There's not more news now than there was when we were kids. There's the same amount from when it was just Cronkite. And the easiest way to fill it is to have someone's opinion on it. Then you have an opposite opinion, and then you have a mishmash of fact and opinion, and you leave it the least informed you can possibly be.

Sep. 29th, 2008 @ 09:51 am Voting Guide
Tags:
I feel a bit strange posting a link to an "Evangelical Voter's Guide" considering these days I don't identify closely with being a Christian, let alone an Evangelical, but I believe this is sound advice for ANY voter.
  • Do your homework
  • Plan on voting even if you are frustrated
  • Do not be a one-issue voter
  • Think about how much character should weigh in who you vote for
  • Prioritize what you, in good conscience, think are the most crucial issues–and evaluate the candidates on the basis of those priorities
  • Be smart enough to see when a candidate is not being honest or forthright about his or her views
  • Don’t just vote on gut instinct. Think, evaluate, discuss, pray before pulling the lever

Wow... 25 weeks since my last entry. Yeah... I suck.

Shirli and I are back in Tel Aviv for the holiday. It's always nice to be here, even if it's only for a week.

For those of you who follow me on Facebook or Twitter, you probably know that Tobias was in emergency care last weekend. We took him in because it looked like his right eye was bulging out. During the initial visit they also found a heart murmur, in addition to increased interoccular pressure. So he stayed at intensive care overnight, and saw an opthamologist and a cardiologist. His heart is o.k. but he has a leaky valve, so he'll be on medication for the rest of his life. He's also got glaucoma in his right eye, so he's on multiple meds to get the pressure under control. And we already had him on a food trial and antibiotics to figure out a recurring skin infection. Poor guy is getting 6 different meds now, but he's pretty good about taking them.

With all the meds and the fact that increased blood pressure can increase eye pressure, we didn't want to board him this week that we're gone... so Amit is staying at our place and taking care of him this week (Thanks Amit!!!)

Alright... enough for now. I guess if you want to get more regular updates you should follow me on Twitter (or add that to your favorite RSS reader).

Shana Tovah!

Apr. 5th, 2008 @ 06:41 am Tired...
We're on our flight now. After being up until 1:30 packing, we were up at 4:45 to get ready and off to the airport by 5:30. Shirli and I already agreed that if it's raining in San Juan we'll sleep all afternoon.

So we're off for a cruise in the South Carribean to celebrate our 1 year anniversary and honeymoon. 7 days with stops in St Thomas, St Kitts, Grenada, Bonaire, and Aruba. We found a steal for a mini suite with a balcony and Shirli bought our flights with mileage, First Class even (I guess her constant business travel has its perks).

More later, just don't expect a post from the ship :-)

Mar. 28th, 2008 @ 01:51 pm "Best Wishes on Your New Job"
yeah... I haven't posted in like forever. Sorry about that. Gonna try to get back into the swing of things.

Today is my last day in my current job. I'm making a lateral move internally into a new department and a new title (I'll officially be a "Consultant" and no longer a "Statistical Analysis Manager"). All the pay is the same... just a change in the work that I do.

In preparation for my move I transitioned my only direct report to another manager about a month ago. She scheduled a pull up with me today out of the blue, just to thank me for the help and coaching that I provided for the last year.

And she hands me a card... "Best Wishes on Your New Job" that has been signed by our whole team. Too cool.

I'll definitely miss some of the people on this team... but I will NOT miss the work.

And tomorrow starts the week long vacation that will separate the two jobs. A week off with no lingering stress about what's going on at the office... priceless.

Got great seats at RFK. 12 rows behind the 3rd base line. Nats are beating the Cubs 6-0, and Dmitri Young just hit a Grand Slam. Not that I'm a big Nats fan or anything (Go Sox!), but I've never seen a Grand Slam live... And I've gotta cheer for the home team. I'm having a perfect holiday.

Happy 4th everyone!!!!

Curt Schilling is keeping a blog. He writes a bit about each game he pitches, win or loss. He's also been writing an AMAZING amount of Q & A, and even responds to "questions" from people who are ribbing him or trying to be assholes. He seems to be an amazingly calm and thoughtful person.

If you're a fan of the Sox, or even baseball generally, have a read at http://38pitches.com/
