A couple things I wanted to post on....
RSS for LiveJournal I was flipping through the Help pages for NetNewsWire (my favorite RSS aggregator), and discovered that they support accessing protected entries in LiveJournal. Sweet! You just subscribe to the feed as http://www.livejournal.com/users/USERNAME/data/rss?auth=digest. The reader will the prompt for your LJ user and password to allow access to the feed. Though from what I can tell this doesn't work with Bloglines or Google Reader.
Democracy Player If you're into web video (and if you have a broadband connection, you should be), then you should check out Democracy Player. It downloads videos published with RSS and has a built-in player. Very nice interface, and easy to use. I'm currently using it for numerous feeds, including NOVA, ABC News, NBC News, Democracy Now!, Diggnation, GeekBrief.TV, MacBreak, VH1 Best Week Ever, G4 Attack of the Show, etc. etc. etc. It comes with a few built-in channels and an extensive channel guide to get you started.
TextExpander Sorry, folks. This one is Mac-only. I heard about TextExpander before, but got excited about it after seeing it in action in a recent episode of MacBreak. It allows you to type in shortcuts and it will expand the shortcut out to some full text. I'm now using it extensively when editing LJ entries. For example, when I type "ahref" it fills in all the "a href= blah blah blah" to create a link. The links for my photos on SmugMug are much longer, especially since I include the image in small size, and a link to a large size version... so having a shortcut "ljimg" has been an incredible timesaver.
FYI - I absolutely love my MacBook Pro. |
